Reason behind the name of this bag is that it looks very much like a saddles so it is called saddlebag. Saddle is a tool, which is kept on the back of animal to make a seat for human. Soft saddle bags are fixed on bike through leather cords and hard saddle bags are usually attached permanently through rapid or bolts.
